Maggie Moore's connection to fine craftsmanship reaches back generations through the Moore family. Her ancestor John Chandler Moore, who died in 1874, was an American silversmith working in New York. In the 1850s, John Chandler Moore and his son, Edward Chandler Moore, joined Tiffany & Co., establishing a family connection to an important chapter in American silver and jewelry craftsmanship. That connection continued through later generations. Maggie's great-grandfather, Louis deBebian Moore, served as President and Director of Tiffany & Co. from 1947 to 1956.

Today, that history carries special meaning for deBebians. The deBebian name, carried through Maggie's family, became part of the name chosen for the company she and Sam would later co-found. For deBebians, heritage is not about recreating the past. It is a reminder that exceptional jewelry is built on craftsmanship, attention to detail, and standards that should endure from one generation to the next.

A Fascination That Started With a Jewelry Box

For Maggie, jewelry became personal long before it became a profession. As a child, she remembers looking through her mother's and grandmother's jewelry boxes. Her grandmother, in particular, had several impressive pieces that helped spark Maggie's fascination with fine jewelry.

Those early memories also shaped something Maggie still believes today: the true value of jewelry cannot always be measured by the value of its materials. A piece can be modest in monetary value and still be priceless because of who gave it to you, when you received it, and the memories attached to it. After college, a woman at a local jewelry store encouraged Maggie to pursue an education at GIA. Maggie moved to Carlsbad, California, and entered the Graduate Gemologist program. It was there that another part of the deBebians story began.

Sam's appreciation for objects, design, and craftsmanship developed through his father. Sam worked in his father's Beverly Hills antique store, European Fine Antiques, restoring and working around time-worn antiques and vintage jewelry. That experience reinforced a lesson that continues to influence his design work today: attention to detail matters.
