Over thirty gay and straight couples were married at the Grammy Awards this year while Queen Latifah officiated. Madonna, Mary Lambert, Ryan Lewis, and Macklemore performed to the couples during the ceremony. The stage was transformed into a beautiful, makeshift church with stained glass windows for all to see.
Afterwards, Latifah was quoted backstage as saying, “I look forward to the day when presiding over a historic wedding ceremony like this is the norm. I can’t wait to dash off and sign their marriage certificates.”
Katy Perry posted a selfie on Instagram after Sunday’s nuptials. The “Roar” singer was lucky enough to snag one of the bouquets that was tossed after the ceremony. Her caption read, “Congrats to all the #samelove couples tonight. You had me in tears of joy for y’all! Also… Look who caught the bouquet #okuuuurrrr!!!” If superstition is true, then Katy Perry and John Mayer may be the next celebrity couple to walk down the aisle and exchange wedding rings.
The Grammys wedding ceremony has been received with mixed reviews. Many found the display of love moving, while others were more critical of the event. Did you catch the Grammys last night? What was your favorite part?
