Katie Couric, 56, had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. It was confirmed that the journalist and talk show host is engaged to financier John Molner after two years of dating. Details are still coming to light about the engagement, but it appears that Molner, 50, proposed to Couric over the weekend in East Hampton, NY at the beach overlooking the sunset.
People was the first to release the news, but Couric shared her happiness via Twitter soon after: “Yes it’s true!”
“So touched by all the kind Tweets & warm wishes-thank you!” she tweeted. “A great end to the summer & looking fwd to seeing you all Monday!!”
This will be a second marriage for Couric, who was previously married to Jay Monahan from 1989 until his death from colon cancer in 1998. She has two daughters from her marriage with Monahan, who are 21 and 17.
Couric had always hoped to find love again and spoke to People in 2011 about the matter. “When the girls were really little, I always imagined I would be modern-day Carol Brady.”
We can’t wait to see what her engagement ring looks like. Perhaps we will catch a glimpse on Monday, September 9th when Katie comes back for its second season.
