AMC’s “Mad Men” continues to be a hit TV show on the screen and even off the screen, by influencing today’s fashion with the wardrobe and accessories of the 1960’s. Both Don Draper and Roger Sterling are the epitome and style and class, fashionably speaking. What are some of the classic looks that you yourself can adopt from these two characters?
The staple wardrobe for many of the men at Sterling Cooper is the classic American suit. These tailored suits were popularized by fashion power houses like Ralph Lauren & Brooks Brother during the 1950s and 1960s. These smart suits and typically paired with a pocket square and a white dress shirt. While pinstripes or modest patterns in the fabric are reasonable, anything too showy would have been considered too casual for the workplace.
While jewelry is not a dominant accessory for either character, one can often spot Roger Sterling with his choice of a men’s signet ring, worn on his pinky. Men’s signet rings continue to be classic and timeless pieces of jewelry for men. They can be engraved with en emblem or up to three initials. They are traditionally white or yellow gold and they convey power and success, something that would interest a man like Roger Sterling.
