Stone Sizes for a Round Diamond Eternity Ring
A Guide to Carat Weights, Diameters, and Finding Your Perfect Sparkle
At deBebians, we specialize in helping you design the perfect eternity band. Whether you are looking for a delicate stackable ring or a bold statement piece, understanding stone sizes is the first step toward your dream ring.
A round diamond eternity band can be made with almost any size stone. The most common question we hear is: "How many stones do I need, and how large will they look?"
The Anatomy of Carat Weight vs. Diameter
When selecting an eternity ring, it is important to distinguish between total carat weight (cttw) and the individual stone size. Because the stones must wrap entirely around your finger, your ring size will determine the exact number of diamonds required.
We recently manufactured a GIA-certified round diamond eternity ring where each individual diamond weighed 0.60 carats. This ring required only 12 diamonds to complete the circle, resulting in a staggering 7.24 cttw. Each 0.60ct stone had a diameter of approximately 5.3mm to 5.4mm.
Standard Round Eternity Ring Sizes
To help you visualize the width and presence of these rings, here is a breakdown of our most popular configurations for a standard size 6-7 finger:
| Total Weight (cttw) | Individual Stone Carat | Stone Diameter (mm) | Approx. Stone Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.00 cttw | 0.05 ct | 2.4 mm | 20 - 22 |
| 2.00 cttw | 0.09 ct | 2.9 mm | 20 - 22 |
| 3.00 cttw | 0.16 ct | 3.4 mm | 18 - 20 |
| 4.00 cttw | 0.25 ct | 4.0 - 4.1 mm | 16 |
| 5.00 cttw | 0.35 ct | 4.4 - 4.5 mm | 14 - 15 |
Comfort and Customization
The biggest concern when manufacturing a large eternity ring is comfort. Larger stones mean a higher profile off the finger, which can sometimes feel bulky between the fingers. This is why deBebians manufactures every round eternity band from scratch.
By custom-making each piece, we can control the height of the setting to ensure the ring sits as low as possible for maximum comfort while maintaining the security of the stones.
