Valentine’s Day Legends

I think Valentine’s day is one of the most favorite holidays in our country–it is certainly one of mine! The origin dates centuries back and there are so many versions of the story. My favorite one is below.

Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men were better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When his actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. The legend states that he healed one of his jailer’s daughter, who had been blind since birth. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a last letter signed “From your Valentine,” an expression that is still in use today. His sentence was carried out on February 14, 270 A.D. Although the truth behind the Valentine’s Day legend is murky, the stories all emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and most importantly, romantic figure. One each February 14th, Saint Valentine’s Day, messages of affection, love, and devotion are exchanged around the world.

Jewelry is one of the most popular and desired gift items for this romantic occasion. The best gifts come in little boxes they say 🙂

Below are some of my favorite jewelry pieces that would make an amazing gift for your special someone.
