Frequently Asked Questions

Customization & Manufacturing

Am I able to customize a piece? Can I make changes to the design?

Yes, absolutely. Custom jewelry, especially custom engagement rings, are our specialty, and we would be happy to provide you with a free quote and consultation over the phone. For more on this subject, please visit our custom engagement rings page or give us a call at 213-627-1300.

Can I get higher quality diamonds?

Yes, absolutely. Please contact us for a quote.

Can I e-mail deBebians a picture of a piece to be designed?

Yes, please e-mail pictures to us at general@debebians.com, as well as the details of your desired piece of jewelry (metal type, size, diamond quality, width, etc.), and we will provide you with a free quote.

Are deBebians' rings hand engraved or is it done in the casting?

Our rings are beautifully hand engraved by an expert jeweler.

Does deBebians use natural diamonds?

Unless it is clearly stated, all diamonds (center diamonds as well as accent diamonds) that deBebians sells are natural, untreated diamonds. deBebians does not sell clarity enhanced diamonds. While we do offer lab created or synthetic diamonds, they are clearly stated in the product description, product title, etc.

Does deBebians sell plated gold jewelry?

No, deBebians does not sell any gold plated jewelry. All of our jewelry is solid metal whether it's gold, platinum, palladium, etc. Please note that all white gold jewelry is rhodium plated. This is an electroplating process that is the final step for all white gold jewelry. All white gold jewelry is rhodium plated whether you buy from deBebians.com or another retailer.

Engagement Rings

If I buy both a diamond and an engagement ring setting from deBebians, does deBebians set the center diamond into the ring?

Absolutely. We automatically do this for our customers at no additional charge.

Do I have to buy both an engagement ring and a loose diamond from deBebians?

No. Customers can purchase one or the other, or both. If you already have a diamond, we will need to know the specifications of your stone, including its shape, measurements, color and clarity, prior to us manufacturing your ring.

I already have a diamond. If a buy an engagement ring setting from deBebians, how does that work?

We make each engagement ring to order and will make the setting tailored to your center stone. Once you receive the setting, you can take your diamond and the setting to a local reputable jeweler to have your center stone set. We highly recommend this option, because it is more affordable, convenient and safer for our clients. If you cannot find a jeweler in your area, you can send your diamond to us, and we will set it for you into the ring for a fee. There may also be a shipping charge to fully insure the package back to you. Please contact us for details.

Do I need to buy a diamond (from deBebians or somewhere else) before I buy the setting?

The center diamond is the starting point for any engagement ring setting, and many times the setting needs to be manufactured to perfectly suit the center diamond. This is especially true of our halo engagement ring settings, because the halo must be manufactured to perfectly frame the center diamond. The center diamond also dictates the quality of any accent diamonds selected for your setting. A quality engagement ring features side diamonds that visually match and complement the center stone perfectly.

Does deBebians sell moissanite?

We now offer Forever Brilliant ® Moissanite as an option on almost all of our engagement ring settings and Forever One ™ on select engagement ring settings. Simply select Forever One ™ Moissanite as your center stone when also selecting your finger size and metal type. More information about our moissanite can be found here.

Can I set a round diamond in a cushion halo or square halo?

Yes, sometimes our customers want a round diamond but like the look of the square halo. Please contact us for a quote.

How is a halo ring modified to fit my size of diamond? What's CAD?

Engraving

Do you engrave on the inside or the outside of the ring?

The standard engraving that we offer is on the inside of the ring, with the exception of our signet rings. We can also engrave on the outside of most plain rings, upon request; please contact us to find out if this is possible and what the additional cost would be.

What type of fonts do you offer?

For engraving on the inside of the ring, our standard font is Helvetica (see sample image), but we also offer a script font upon request.

Can I have more than 15 characters engraved?

We allow 15-20 characters but can accommodate more characters on most men's rings. If your desired engraving exceeds 20 characters, the cost is $1 per additional character. Sometimes long engravings need to be engraved on two or sometimes even three lines. If you would like a longer engraving, you can enter the full engraving in the comments section of your order, and we will contact you if additional payment is needed.

Can you engrave any special characters?

For our standard engraving, we can engrave most keyboard characters and Latin alphabet characters with accents. We can also engrave a heart symbol, although this symbol appears lighter than our regular characters. Unfortunately, we are not able to engrave the infinity symbol, nor are we able to engrave other alphabets (such as Cyrillic or Hebrew). If you are interested in having something more intricate or complicated done, we can possibly do it via laser engraving upon request; please contact us to find out if this is possible and what the additional cost would be.

Can I send the ring back for engraving?

Yes, absolutely. It's a good idea to verify that the ring fits correctly before having it engraved, as engraved items are nonreturnable. Once you have verified that the ring fits and that you like it, you can download our RMA form and send the ring back to us for engraving. The fee for engraving rings is $19.99, plus a shipping and processing fee.

How long does engraving take?

For engraving on the inside of the ring, there is no delay as the process is done in-house prior to shipment. If you send the ring back to us for engraving, it typically takes about two business days to process before the ring is shipped back to you.

What type of engraving process do you use?

Exchanges

What is your exchange policy?

Loose Diamonds

What are the most popular diamond shapes?

Round, princess and cushion are popular among our customers.

What's the difference between GIA and EGL diamonds?

GIA, or the Gemological Institute of America, is highly regarded in the industry for upholding strict standards in its diamond grading practices. EGL, or the European Gemological Laboratory, is another laboratory that is well regarded but is not as strict as GIA. For example, it is not uncommon for an EGL diamond to be two color grades more yellow than a corresponding GIA diamond. What this means is that a diamond graded by EGL as G in color could very well be graded as an I color by GIA.

Does deBebians provide photographs of its loose diamonds?

No, but our GIA graduate gemologists can serve as your eyes. We visually inspect all diamonds sold and maintain strict standards. Our loose diamonds come with a 30 day return and exchange policy, so ultimately if you are not satisfied with the diamond, you are welcome to return or exchange it.

I want a diamond that's eye clean and super sparkly. How will I know that I'm getting what I want sight unseen?

Every loose diamond we sell is personally inspected by our GIA graduate gemologists, who are very picky about the quality of diamonds we allow to be shipped to the customer. We work closely with our customers to understand what they want and make sure all expectations are met.

What if I can't find a diamond I found on another website?

Sometimes customers unknowingly sabotage themselves by comparison shopping a specific diamond from a variety of retailers. This can make the diamond more difficult to obtain and may also drive up the cost of the diamond. It's better to choose the company you want to work with first and then work closely with them to find the right diamond for you. Our GIA graduate gemologists use their education, experience and industry knowledge to select the best diamond for your specific criteria.

Do you offer more diamonds than just what's on deBebians.com?

Yes! We have access to thousands of diamonds that are not listed on our website. Just tell us what you're looking for (budget, diamond shape, color, clarity, etc.), and we will be happy to perform a diamond search for you.

For fancy yellow diamonds, can I get other shapes than what is on the website?

Yes. On our website, we offer the most commonly available yellow diamond shapes, but we do have other shapes available as well. If you let us know what you are looking for, we can perform a diamond search for you.

What is your policy regarding conflict diamonds?

At deBebians, we maintain a zero tolerance policy regarding conflict diamonds. We strictly adhere to the mandates of the Kimberley Process and absolutely do not engage in any business concerning conflict or blood diamonds. We work only with reputable diamond suppliers who are public affiliates of the global diamond industry and have fully complied with the Kimberley Process. All of our diamonds are purchased through these legal and legitimate channels and are guaranteed to be conflict free. We are proud members of the global diamond industry, and your purchase of a conflict-free, beautiful diamond is our priority.

What is the Kimberley Process?

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, or Kimberley Process for short, was established by the United Nations in 2003 to curtail conflict diamonds from entering the rough diamond market. The process is open to all countries willing and able to abide by its requirements. Also in 2003, the U.S. established the Clean Diamond Trade Act to stop the trade of conflict or blood diamonds. This law marked the beginning of the U.S.'s participation in the Kimberley Process. As of August 2012, the Kimberley Process had 51 participants representing 77 countries. Members account for an estimated 99.8 percent of the world's rough diamond production. The Kimberley Process imposes extensive requirements on its members in order to certify shipments of rough diamonds as conflict free, and members can only trade legally with other members of the Kimberley Process. Most diamonds on the market today meet the standards of the Kimberley Process.

Order Processing

Once I order, how long does it take for me to get my order?

Processing time varies from product to product. Every product page has an estimated "processing time" period noted under "delivery information." For example, if the product page says "Processing Time: 2-3 Days" then the processing time for that item is approximately 2-3 business days. Then add the estimated transit time (see our shipping page for estimates), which can vary from overnight to weeks, depending on where you are located. Shipments are fully insured, and a signature is required upon delivery.

Can deBebians rush an order?

It's sometimes possible for us to rush an order, depending on the item. If you are on a tight schedule, please contact us to discuss your options. We frequently work with deadlines and understand that some purchases must be made on short notice.

Packaging & Paperwork

Is an appraisal included?

Appraisals are available at an additional charge of $100 per piece of jewelery purchased from deBebians. Appraisals are provided for insurance purposes and also attest to the authenticity and exact specifications of the piece.

Will a diamond certificate be included?

If the piece includes a certified diamond or certified diamonds, we will include the original GIA or EGL report(s) in the package. Large diamonds are certified by third party labs that verify the diamond's attributes, and the certificate number is often inscribed directly onto the diamond. We offer GIA and EGL certified diamonds, and we also offer non-certified diamonds. Smaller accent diamonds in the ring will not be certified.

What is the difference between an appraisal and a diamond certificate?

An appraisal is a document that provides the necessary information to your insurance company to replace the entire ring in the event of loss, theft or damage. A certificate refers to a lab report from a third party company that attests to a diamond's characteristics.

What kind of packaging does my purchase come with?

Our jewelry comes packaged in a beautiful jewelry box, and we offer wood box upgrades for most items during the checkout process. We also offer gift wrapping services, which can be selected upon checkout for a nominal fee.

Payment & Pricing

Can I get a discount?

We offer periodic coupon codes and special discount offers. Check out our Facebook page, , or contact us for details. For payment via bank wire transfer, we can offer a 1.5% discount. Please note that your bank may charge you a fee for the wire transfer. This type of payment can delay the processing of your order, as we need to verify that the funds have been deposited into our account before proceeding with your order.

Does deBebians offer financing?

We offer two financing options that allow you to pay for your purchase over time and receive your purchase quickly. Financing is subject to credit approval. More information about our financing options can be found here.

Does deBebians offer layaway?

Yes. A 20% deposit is due at the time of ordering. Then the remaining balance is divided over five months. We will charge your credit card in installments each month until it is paid off. You may also pay off the balance sooner if you wish. Once the order is paid in full, we will begin processing your order. We do not extend our layaway plan beyond six months. More information can be found here.

Why is deBebians' jewelry so affordable? I've shopped locally and the prices were a lot higher.

We are primarily an online retailer, and we keep our overhead costs as low as possible. Many of the high overhead costs associated with a brick-and-mortar jewelry store simply are not part of our business model. We also manufacture many of our pieces ourselves, cutting middleman costs, and our location in the heart of the Los Angeles jewelry district gives us direct access to a wide variety of suppliers and vendors.

Do you accept international credit cards?

Unfortunately, no. We are not able to accept international credit cards at this time. We only accept credit cards issued by U.S.-based banks. For international orders, we accept payment by bank wire only.

Returns

What is your return policy?

You can return any non-custom, non-engraved item still in its original condition within 30 days from the date you received it. There is a $20 restocking fee for items under $1,000, and a $50 restocking fee for items over $1,000. For more fine jewelry return information, please click here.

Ring Sizes

Does deBebians offer quarter ring sizes?

For our gold and platinum rings, yes. If the quarter size you are looking for is not listed on the product page, please select the closest size and then indicate the exact size you need in the comments section of your order. If you would like a quarter size of a ring made of another type of material, please contact us, and we will let you know if it's possible.

If the ring does not fit, am I able to get it resized?

You may always exchange it for a different size within 30 days, as long as the ring is not custom or engraved. Please note that there is a $20 exchange shipping and handling fee for items under $1,000, a $50 exchange shipping and handling fee for items priced between $1,000 and $7,500, and a $70 exchange shipping and handling fee for items over $7,500. For our gold or platinum rings, please contact us about sizing options after the 30-day period.

How do I find out the correct ring size?

The most accurate method of determining one's ring size is to be measured by a local jeweler. Other methods, such as the string method or paper print outs, are notoriously unreliable. Please note that one's own ring size can fluctuate based on the temperature, time of day, the consumption of salty foods, etc. The average size for ladies ring is a size 6, and the average ring size for a man is a size 10.

For engagement rings, we recommend erring on the slightly larger side, so that when you propose, she is able to put the ring on her finger. If you are trying to keep the proposal a secret, you can ask her friends or family if they know her size, or you can get one of her existing rings (if she wears it on her ring finger) and take it to a local jeweler to be measured. They would simply put it onto a mandrel (looks like a stick) to read the measurement.

Shipping

What types of shipping do you offer?

We ship via the U.S. Post Office and FedEx. All packages are shipped fully insured with a signature required. Our free shipping is ground shipping but expedited options are available. Please visit our fine jewelry shipping info page for complete information.

Warranty and Lifetime Guarantee

What kind of warranty does deBebians offer? What if a diamond falls out?

We provide a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on all of our fine jewelry (restrictions apply). Additionally, we provide a one-year extended service plan for our diamond jewelry, including our engagement rings and eternity rings. In the unlikely event that an accent diamond or gemstone (0.10 ct. or less) falls out within the first year, we will replace it free of charge. We also provide complimentary cleaning, polishing and rhodium plating for life. There is simply a shipping and processing fee associated with these services. If an accent diamond falls out after the first year, we will replace and repair the item at a low, reasonable price. Please note that we do not warranty against the loss of the center diamond, any certified diamonds, or any diamond larger than 0.10 ct. We strongly recommend that you insure your ring to protect yourself should this ever occur, and we also recommend having your ring checked annually to ensure that all the diamonds are secure.
