What is a European Shank or Euro Shank?

European shank or Euro shank… what does that mean? Well, this is a great question! More times than not, you will find a round shank on an engagement ring or wedding ring. ‘What is a shank?’, you may ask. The shank is the part of the ring that circles around your finger. Commonly you may see a round shank but sometimes you may see a squared off shank. This squared off shank is called a Euro shank or a European shank.

Are there any benefits to a European shank vs a traditional shank? Possibly, but it depends on what you are seeking in your engagement ring. In my opinion, a euro shank may help your ring from spinning around on your finger. With the shank squared off on the bottom, it may be less likely to spin. This may be good for those of you who have a top heavy ring… if you know what I mean! Another possible positive feature with a Euro shank is that depending on how the ring is manufactured, it can make for a heavier ring (in terms of gram weight).

Here at deBebians.com, we offer a few rings that feature a European shank. It’s important to know that even if our rings do not feature a euro shank, you can always contact us for a custom quote.

Here are some of our Euro shank rings. Please take notice of the side profile of the shank and how it is squared off.
