Amidst the rising popularity of designer diamond studded iPhone4 cases, Tag Heuer has entered the cell phone market with a $6,700 Android smart phone. The custom phone comes in either diamond, gold or platinum trim.
While the cost seems rather high, it is also much cheaper than the recent diamond encrusted cases that sell for $50,000+ and the price is comparable to the already well established luxury phone brand, Vertu.
Tag Heuer, is part of the luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, which also includes brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hennessy, Christian Dior, and Moet Champagne.
While most people who are apt to purchase this luxury item are not the tech savviest, the specs hold up decently well on this phone. It sports a 5 megapixel camera, upgradeable memory card slot for up to 8GB, a 3.5 inch Gorilla Glass screen, and a standard 800×480 pixel resolution.
While Vertu has been offering a wide range of luxury phones, this is the first time an Android OS smartphone has been redesigned as a luxury item. Previously, buyers of high end cellphones had to suffer the lightning quick dreaded outdating of phone software. But, with the Android OS, new updates to the software will be rolled out and the phone can upgrade to keep in line with the latest technologies.
