Pave accents also offer a slightly varied take on the traditional diamond solitaire engagement ring; the small diamonds of a pave band bring a lot of extra sparkle to a ring but are not so obtrusive as to detract from the simplicity of one well-chosen center stone. To make a pave engagement diamond ring, small holes are drilled in the ring shank to place the tiny diamonds. After each diamond is positioned in its respective hole, tiny bits of metal are pushed over from the shank's surface over the edges of the diamonds, which results in tiny beads that hold the diamonds in place. This accentuates all types of diamond ring including the princess diamond engagement ring and cushion cut diamond engagement ring.
